The Story of Persephone

Curated by Johannes Böckmann

On the Truth Behind the Persephone Theme, 2019:

At the heart of my work is the psychological experience of archetypal forces, as told in the motifs of ancient mythology. I render them with figures of my soul — as figures of my psyche and of people I identify with — to give them renewed life in the here and now. Some may experience these themes as challenging, or politically incorrect, overtly sexual. But, for me, these figures are all living characters within the psyche, within the collective unconscious, of which I participate. They live in me, as they live in audiences, and whatever our contemporary moral judgements may be, these images resonate on a universal and primordial level that is undeniable and in fact result in healing if met with the light of consciousness.
