Samuel Abelow & Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin: Art Exhibit & Kabbalah Lecture
Hadas Gallery at Chabad of Clinton Hill & Pratt Institute presenst a new exhibition of paintings by Brooklyn artist Samuel Abelow exploring the Kabbalistic concept of the Sefirot, or Tree of Life, through contemporary figurative and symbolic painting.
The exhibition centers on seven paintings corresponding to the emotional attributes of the Sefirot, alongside a live collaboration and lecture with Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin.
The central work of the exhibition, Fruition (Couple), is a lush painting inspired by a numinous dream Abelow recorded during Rosh Hashanah in 2021:
βThe infinite number of pomegranate seeds spraying down from above to below; all colors of deep purple, mauve-magenta, magenta-pink and pinkish-orange array before me.β
The painting portrays the mystical union of masculine and feminine as a dance between imagined characters moving through an atmosphere of abundance, eros, and spiritual vitality. Throughout the composition, the Tree of Life is reimagined through dazzling pomegranate forms descending across the surface, transforming Kabbalistic symbolism into a vivid painterly language.
