Mysteries of the Night

Curated by Johannes Böckmann

Artist Statement, May 2019

The references to colors and patterns from ancient cultures is an attempt to inwardly understand layers of the non-Western psyche. Through specifically engaging with feminine archetypes, I have uncovered lost dimensions of self, which my initially local identity had neglected. Thus, I have seen how pluralistic and malleable identity truly is. Through this realization, we all can come to appreciate, even love, one another despite sexual, cultural or ethnic differences — valuing inclusivity and unity.

Through these paintings emerge conversations with ancient aspects of humanity, the goddesses which patriarchy has neglected. My personal practice of feminine exaltation is an examination and deconstruction of the logocentric collective psyche — a work fit for the moment of today, the source of which is eternal and rooted into our archaic being — the great goddess at the beginning of time.
